Artisan Handicrafts

In Esquièze-Sère, La Carde has been making blankets and woolen clothes since 1891.

Wishing to use local wool, the company harvests this noble material from the local valley breeders. Once spun, it is woven and made on site and the items manufactured are sold in the shop and local markets.

A little history...

In the Luz Valley, breeding is a tradition. The sheep has always been a pillar of local agriculture and, as far back as we can remember, this small area has been an area of weavers.

As early as 1891, Joseph and Marie Cazenave were already spinning. Their son Louis and his wife Catherine followed in their footsteps and created La Carde. In total, five generations handed over the torch of what remains, still today, a family and cottage industry business, now managed by Aude and Damien.

Shop and visits

A wide range of woolen items are on offer such as naturally dyed clothing (blankets, plaids, jackets, pampas, capes, ponchos, etc.), woolen carded duvets or cushions made with wool filling.

The production workshops can be freely visited all year round. Free guided tours are also organized during which a weaving demonstration is held every Wednesday in July-August and upon reservation the rest of the year.
