About us
This monumental bridge located 70 meters above the Gave de Pau was commissioned in 1859 by Emperor Napoleon III following his stay at the waters of Saint-Sauveur, with a view to connecting the spa district to the Gavarnie road. The spectacular construction site for the time, led by the engineer of Bridges and Roads Eugène-François Bruniquel, began in 1860 with the construction of an arch from a wooden tower raised from the bed of the watercourse.
Opened to traffic in 1861, Napoleon III visited the site in 1863, as evidenced by the plaque affixed to the 68-metre-long deck.
A striking building due to its dizzying height and the bungee jumping that takes place there, it can be discovered discreetly under its arch near the water, by taking the Promenade Eugénie.
