Observe the colors in autumn in the Pyrenees

Autumn
a season of sweetness

  • Autumn
  • Discovery and heritage
  • Sport and discovery

Each season has its charms in the Gavarnie Valleys, autumn in particular. Nature is gradually putting on its most beautiful fire gear to embark on a final performance, before bowing out and falling asleep peacefully until spring. It's time to enjoy the Pyrenees in complete privacy. Hikes, mushroom picking, deer slabs and the first snowflakes will punctuate our discovery of this new season.

    Go for a colorful ride

The tumult of summer subsides, the pace slows down and the temperatures refresh gradually.

    Outings in autumn

     Fall hikes

ou the autumn sun, we take advantage of peaceful walks or more challenging hikes during which we allow ourselves moments of calm and serenity in landscapes conducive to disconnection.

     Forest trails

Leaf-lined paths are also perfect for testing mountain bike outings : banks of the Gave, Lienz forest and many other spots are to be discovered before the arrival of winter.

Meet the king of the forest

Autumn is also the time of love in the Pyrenees.

    Rutting period in the Pyrenees

deer embark on a frenzied parade to conquer the hearts of the females who populate the peaks. This is called the rut.

On this occasion, the king of the forest begins to bawl to warn the does of its presence and dissuade other males from approaching.

    How to observe it?

This very singular roar resounds in the forests of the mid-September to mid-October.

Outings accompanied by professionals such as Hadrian Brewer ou Walking are organized so that everyone can attend this sound show and try to observe this beautiful moment that nature offers us.

    Participate in a mushroom picking

Here, we take the harvest of ceps and other edible mushrooms very seriously as they are tasty!

    Mushroom corners

    a well kept secret

Like a precious heirloom, the little places where they grow are passed down from one generation to the next in the greatest of secrets. The lucky ones will perhaps come across a resident of the valleys who will agree to share some of their hiding places...

Otherwise, to the entrance of autumn during a walk in the woods, we open our eyes wide, we arm ourselves with a lot of patience and a little bit of luck to unearth these gustatory nuggets. Please note that picking is prohibited in the Pyrenees national Park and in the Neouvielle Nature Reserve.

    Benefit from expert advice

    Guided outings

To increase the chances of having mushrooms for dinner, it is best to sign up for outings organized by the guides of our valleys. The opportunity to take advantage of their wise advice and their sharp eyes to fill our basket!

    Experience an autumnal sunset

The lights offered by autumn are also an exceptional spectacle to savor in the four corners of the valleys. At golden hour, the orange glow goes perfectly with the colors of the faded vegetation. The ocher reflections instantly give a soft and soothing appearance to the mountains. It's time for the amateur photographers to try a few shots to try to capture this very special atmosphere. From the Hautacam ridges to the Pic des Tentes via the Tourmalet or even the Col de Spandelles and the Bergons valley, these places will serve as ideal observatories during these late autumn days...

Witness the transition of the seasons

A tasty transition between summer and winter, autumn offers a collection of evolving scenes in which to get lost again and again.

    Ever-changing landscapes

Nature serves as a blank canvas on which the seasons have fun applying their own color chart. Sometimes tinted with 1001 orange colors, sometimes sprinkled with an immaculate white, the landscapes are rediscovered from day to day.

Watch the snow fall in front of a good snack

Near the chimney in one of our cafes, in front of a nice snack, we enjoy the show while looking out the window at the changing landscapes. One, two, three... a thousand snowflakes gradually wrap nature in a thick blanket. Well covered, she is ready to fall into a deep sleep from which she will not wake up until next spring...
