Accessible tourism

A destination for everyone, the Gavarnie Valleys open their doors and advise all types of customers. Labeled, the Tourist Office helps to find accommodation, activities, sites to visit or other services for people with disabilities but also able-bodied people with specific needs such as children, spa guests or the elderly.

Accessible stay in the Gavarnie Valleys

The Tourist Offices of the Argelès-Gazost Valley, Gèdre and Val d’Azun have all obtained the “ Accessible tourism » for the reception of the 4 deficiencies; hearing disability, visual disability, motor disability and mental disability.

Trained staff in Tourist Offices

The staff of these 3 Tourist Offices are therefore aware and trained to welcome people with disabilities and provide our customers with documentation adapted to visual and mental disabilities on request. The information desks are equipped with a hearing amplifier and the advisors are trained in the basics of French Sign Language (LSF). The premises have been designed to accommodate all types of visual audiences thanks to displays, lighting and a laid out pathway. Parking spaces for people with disabilities are located near the Tourist Offices.

The Tourism & Disability label

in the Hautes-Pyrénées

The Tourisme & Handicap label is a registered trademark that ensures that holidays and stays are accessible to everyone, while integrating people with disabilities.

The purpose of the label

It identifies accommodation, catering establishments, tourist and leisure sites meeting the requirements of people with disabilities. An establishment can be labeled for one or more impairments among the following four: auditory, motor, mental and visual. To do this, he must meet specifications and commit to respecting them over the long term.

The label makes it possible to provide reliable and objective information to the tourist to help him organizer his stay in autonomy but it is also the guarantor of a adapted reception and knowledgeable staff.

Accessible walks with the Tourism & Handicap label

Interpretation trail of the Col des Tentes in Gavarnie

Total duration: 1 hour
Top

Very easy walk on an almost flat panoramic path. The view of all the peaks surrounding the Cirque de Gavarnie is spectacular. One and a half kilometers long, the trail is decorated with interpretive panels that tell the geology, history and legends. Accessible to people with disabilities for the first 800m, this trail is located at altitude (2m) and offers majestic landscapes, punctuated by desks that deal with different themes: glaciers, people and the mountains, cross-border relations and geology.

Lac d'Estaing - Val d'Azun

Estimated time: 40 minutes
Top

Located at the bottom of the Estaing valley, Lac d'Estaing is a glacial lake, witness to the presence of a glacier which existed in these places in the Quaternary era and which extended to the plain of Argelès-Gazost . Its name comes from the Occitan term “Estang” which means body of water.

The Trait Nature Trail offers you a real introduction to drawing, inspired by the natural environment. Along the way, 4 stations (water, pine, beech, and the Ardiden massif) allow you to discover the natural riches of the Artigalas Park at your fingertips. The trail (640m round trip) invites you to 4 breaks and ends at a belvedere. Here are the senses that are awakened to meet nature (touch, listen, feel).
