CHURCH OF SAINT BARTHÉLÉMY DE BOÔ

free

About us

In Boô, the Romanesque church is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew. With its bell tower and its classic door, located on a small promontory, it was remodeled in the XNUMXth century. The square tower topped with a pointed quadrangular roof may have served as a defense tower in the Middle Ages. Note the small pinnacle (chimboulet) as in Arcizans. Curiously, the access steps are made of tombstones (we go to God by walking on the dead…). Semi-circular bedside.
Inside, an astonishing wooden altarpiece painted in trompe-l'oeil framing a canvas depicting the martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew. The painter did not content himself with decorating the altarpiece. He also shared his art, the pulpit, the baptismal font and the gallery. Tabernacle in gilded wood from the XNUMXth century. Amazing painted wooden vault.
The church is listed as MH
