About us

Henri PAGET (1812-1874) was nicknamed "Chapelle" because the PAGET family home was located a few meters to the left of the Héas chapel. Chapelle was an out-of-the-ordinary character. He was the guide of the great pioneers of Pyreneism, Charles PACKE, Henry RUSSEL, Franz SCHRADER, Alphonse LEQUEUTRE, are full of praise for him, saying he is ardent, intrepid, cheerful and brave. A great chamois hunter, he died of a hunting accident in 1874. According to Henri BÉRALDI: “The brave Chapelle [...] went hunting disguised as a chamois. A clumsy man mistook it and sent twenty-six buckshot into his body” [Cent ans aux Pyrénées, livre III, p. 184].
Charles PACKE had his epitaph engraved on a slab found to the right of the road, between the hamlet of Héas and the Cirque de Troumouse.
