About us
If you push the door of the church of Gavarnie, just by entering, you will find a small cupboard bearing the inscription "Skulls of the Templars". If you are curious, you can open it... You will discover a collection of skulls. The skulls were once placed on a beam in the nave. They were presented as the skulls of the Templars decapitated in 1307 on the orders of Philippe LE BEL. We know today that there were never Templars in Gavarnie but only Hospitallers of Saint-Jean, however the legend remained.
