About us
On the old road leading from the village of Luz to Gavarnie, a small hermitage dedicated to Saint-Pierre was built in the Middle Ages. When the couple Napoleon III and Eugénie de Montijo came to Luz-Saint-Sauveur In 1859, the emperor was asked by locals to help them rebuild a chapel in Lourdes marble stone on this same promontory. He named it the Chapel of Solferino in homage to the famous battle that had taken place on the Italian foothills. The work was completed in 1863. The monograms N and E of the imperial couple can still be seen there today.
