A epic history
The Pic du Midi, an epic feat of mankind at an altitude of 3,000 metres.
While today it takes just 15 minutes by cable car to reach the summit of the Pic du Midi, in years gone by the climb was not as easy. The seven hour walk to get there required courage and tenacity. However, from 1850-1860, neither the harshness of the climate nor the steep incline of the climb managed to discourage a handful of scientists who had what was seen as a madcap idea to create a meteorological station at 2,877 metres above sea level.
The story of its construction is an epic one within the Pyrenees. It is a conquest of the stars. Here visitors meet scientists, astronomers and meteorologists who scan the sky all year round.
