Col du Tourmalet

This mythical col from the Tour de France is the highest road pass in the French Pyrenees and is majestically guarded by the Pic du Midi de Bigorre. It is a “must” see during your stay! The first time it featured in the Tour was in 1910, and at a height of 2,115 m it took the race to new realms – that of the high mountains.

The Climb

The statue that proudly sits at the top is that of Octave Lapize, the first person to conquer the pass through sheer will and determination. It takes perseverance and a good gear set to climb this slope with an average incline of 7.4% over 20 kilometres (max 11%).

What if you tried an electric bike?

No need to tail the polka dot jersey to get up the mountain roads! Just as easy to use as a conventional bike, the electric bike (also known as the E-bike) allows you to enjoy a leisurely ride by providing assistance according to your needs. Be it a road bike or mountain bike, it is easy to use and to get out and discover the Pyrenees!

On the steeper climbs, the whole experience is a pleasant one, made easy by the extra power afforded by the bike. You will be able to enjoy the mountain scenery at leisure – something that you probably would not have imagined doing on a normal bike. With a guide or independently, all you have to do is enjoy the most beautiful panoramic views!
