About us

The Col du Tourmalet, well known to cyclists in summer and skiers in winter, welcomes “la Maison du Tourmalet”. THE Pic du Midi wanted to enhance its surroundings by building this tourist reception structure in this emblematic place which becomes the gateway to the summit installations.
The Maison du Tourmalet is made up of a reception / information / shop area and the Coupole de la Nuit, the operations center of this cross-border program around the themes of the impact of light pollution on biodiversity for the general public, including in particular a 15-minute show under a 360° dome.

SHOWS :
“NOX, THE JOURNEY INTO THE NIGHT” is an immersive 360° journey, lasting 15 minutes, which raises awareness of the impact of light pollution and offers a new look at darkness. The traveler lives a real experience which starts from Toulouse towards the Col du Tourmalet, then the Pic du Midi and raises it to the planets beyond the summits. From the wildest dreams to the scariest nightmares, night is a mysterious and yet fascinating time.

“THE PASS OF THE GIANTS”. Discover the history of the largest pass in the Tour de France: the first pass over 1 meters from 2000, the pass most used by the Grande Boucle, the pass which made the legend of the greatest!
An immersive 360-degree experience told by heroes past and present.

Price for 1 show: €6 and for 2: €10. Duration of each show: 30 min.

THE PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION:
Le Pic du Midi, the Instant Science Association and the CPIE 65 (Centre Permanent d'Initiatives pour l'Environnement Bigorre – Pyrénées) have joined forces to also offer a program of activities so that visitors can go on a quest for history. This summer, the Pic du Midi decided to revive, through historical photos of the Alix background in black and white, the Tour de France which made the Col du Tourmalet internationally famous. Ascent, elevation, combativeness, surpassing oneself, are the key words of this ascent towards the Col just like the construction of the Pic du Midi the summer.

Access by the Espade chairlift + visit to the Maison du Tourmalet
Snowshoes required – Possibility of return by chairlift or snowshoe trail
