Valleys of Gavarnie

Getting started with mountain biking

The Gavarnie Valleys are full of paths on which to escape in a few pedal turns. If the Pyrenean reliefs may seem steep, they still offer great opportunities for mountain biking outings for families and beginners. From the large expanses of grass in the Val d'Azun to the banks of the Gave in Argelès, passing through the forests of Lienz or the Barèges Bike Park, there are as many itineraries here as there are desires and different levels. The perfect place to go mountain biking all summer long!

Before your departure…

To experience beautiful mountain bike outings, it is better to get ready! Equip all the necessary equipment, choose a route adapted to his desires and his abilities...

Equip yourself well

Before setting out to explore the valleys, it is important to be properly equipped to ride in complete safety! For this, go to one of our partners to rent the equipment according to your needs and your practice: frame, helmet, protections...

Choose your route

Once your equipment is ready, all you have to do is identify your future mountain bike outing. And for that, there's nothing like the free Rando Vallées de Gavarnie website or app. Through different filters of duration, elevation, geographical area or even thematic, you can select the circuit that corresponds to your level and your aspirations and consult it even in offline mode.

The Barèges Bike Park, a must in summer

From the beginning of June, the ski slopes of Grand Tourmalet are transformed to welcome mountain bikers on the lawns facing Barèges. Specially designed for all practices and all levels, the circuits of the Bareges Bike Park criss-cross the forests of Ayré, Laquette or Lienz.

Who is it for?

Accessible from 5 years, the courses are classified according to the practices (MTB XC, enduro, downhill, VAE, scooters) and levels of difficulty (from green to black). So, the whole family can set off on evolving routes to progress and have fun. Wide slopes with little slope and without modules for the most novices, steep slopes with slope, modules and difficult obstacles for the most experienced, the field of possibilities is vast. And for those who prefer to watch rather than practice, pedestrian routes will allow you to enjoy the place on your two feet!

 Crossing Soulor - Couraduque - Val d'Azun

Ce easy route used in winter for cross-country skiing allows you to discover the beautiful panoramas of the Val d'Azun. On your way you will have the opportunity to come across herds in the mountain pastures that graze throughout the summer. You will also cross the charming lake of Soum which acts as a mirror of the surrounding peaks. A real moment of escape!

 The Argelès Valley

A great classic, this route remains a must in the valleys! THE banks of the Gave are ideal for indulging in mountain biking. This pleasant and shady path runs along the stream and offers a slight drop and fun areas that will allow you, if you wish, to do some bumps or tight turns.

 Souriche enduro circuit

Evolving mostly on track and on a path without difficulty, this enduro circuit is ideal for beginners. It will lead you to discover the pastoral heritage through the semi-buried barns of Piets Dérat Souriche. Ideal for gently discovering the Barèges valley.
