Fishing in the Pyrenees: all our advice

« The Gavarnie Valleys are for me a fishing destination par excellence! Our territory offers a large number of rivers, torrents, streams and mountain lakes which allow fishing for everyone. There are torrential and tumultuous profiles in the mountains for the more sporty, stronger and more powerful currents at the end of the valley for the more experienced and an incredible number of mountain lakes to marvel at in the great outdoors. We track brown trout, a wild fish that reigns supreme in our white waters. »

I like living in this nature to be preserved, sharing my daily "office" and my experience with interns of all ages. Every fishing moment is unique and it is good to share and pass it on.

« This territory offers magnificent diversity both in terms of fishing and landscapes, there is something for everyone. From the banks of the Gave de Pau with its large-scale peaches, passing through the streams and torrents or its calm and translucent waters of the mountain lakes. These environments are home to sumptuous fish and allow you to practice a large number of different fishing techniques. It is a real pleasure for me to share and teach my passion in such places. »

The beauty of these valleys pushes me to emphasize respect for nature and these environments during each of the courses that I offer. 

With a variety of sectors, you are sure to find the watercourse adapted to your level. In the mountain sectors or in the gorges of the valleys, the thematic routes, most of the routes are marked and easily accessible. Using the interactive map of the Hautes-Pyrénées Fishing Federation, select the route that best suits your desires. However, be careful with water releases from hydroelectric power stations, water levels can increase quickly, vigilance is required.

As for the unmissable fishing spots in mountain lakes, Pierre-Adrien recommends “ the areas of the Marcadau, Fruitière or Glère plateau which offer beautiful loops. Otherwise, the lakes of Isaby, Gloriettes and Espécieres (No-kill Mouche) are a good compromise with little walking. As to in the little secret corners…we will have to spend the day together. »

Fishing techniques 

All the techniques are practicable, knock, fly, lure etc However, it is necessary to find out before going fishing because the rivers are managed in such a way as to preserve the species in certain sectors (reserve) and limit the techniques in others (Trout Leisure course, No-kill, under 12 years old).   

To share a moment of conviviality with friends or family with our guides, the bivouac is the right compromise: fishing advice, sharing, nights in a tent, in a refuge or under the stars in a pretty setting, healing but above all the feeling of being cut off from everything and taking a break from everyday life. 

The Gavarnie Valleys are full of preserved natural areas, ideal for roaming over several days and diving into the most beautiful corners of our valleys, fishing rod in hand. And for the less mountainous fishermen, the Gave enters Pierrefitte-Nestalas and Lourdes is worth the detour with Trout Loisir, No-kill or courses suitable for under 12s. 

Fishing & bivouac 

Throughout the fishing season, the guides offer roaming outings to live this fishing experience in the valleys.

Pierre-Adrien and Clément also organize 2 courses of 3,5 days and 3 nights per year, one at Easter and one at All Saints' Day for a maximum of 6 young fishermen.

Finally, for the youngest, our two fishing guides run the brand new fishing school in the Vallée des Gaves. This school accompanies up to 12 students between the ages of 10 and 16 on 10 annual outings to learn about fishing alongside these two enthusiasts.
