Where to observe the stars in the Gavarnie Valleys?

AT THE HEART OF THE INTERNATIONAL STARRY SKY RESERVE

Did you know that the Pic du Midi and all the villages of the Gavarnie Valleys are labeled International Starry Sky Reserve ? This label rewards an exceptional quality of night sky. Take advantage of these perfect conditions for stargazing during your holidays in the Pyrenees!

HAUTACAM

The Park of Stars

On the heights of Argelès-Gazost, the Star Park in Hautacam is a privileged place to observe the sky. Furniture that encourages daydreaming is freely accessible and facilitates observation of the starry sky. There we find a phosphorescent card to locate the main constellations, a night bath to comfortably contemplate the celestial vault as well as a mini-agora which accommodates astronomical animations in summer.

An unforgettable experience

Magic night

at the top of the Pic du Midi

Let yourself be seduced by an exceptional evening at the Pic du Midi with the Summit Nights. After a dinner with Pyrenean flavors and a screening in the planetarium, get ready for a long astronomical observation session before returning to your room, starry-eyed.

Everywhere else

in the Valleys of Gavarnie

Get a little higher up, where the air is pure and the atmosphere more stable. Here, there are plenty of easily accessible spots: the Soulor and Couraduque passes, the Pont d'Espagne are accessible all year round, while you can climb the Troumouse cirque, the Saugué plateau or even the Tourmalet pass at the beautiful season. The most difficult thing will be to choose !

Uncover the secrets of the universe and of the night

DAYTIME EXPERIENCES

Travel through the night and the cosmos at the heart of the permanent exhibitions at the Pic du Midi and Col du Tourmalet interpretation centres.

A scientific adventure

The Experiences area at the Pic du Midi

The Pic du Midi remains a high place of astronomical observation installed at 2877 meters above sea level. Summer or winter, come aboard the Pic du Midi de Bigorre tourist cable car to reach this major site of the Pyrenees in fifteen minutes. A new museographic layout allows visitors to discover the main themes of research at the Pic du Midi in the form of fun experiences: the stars, the sun, cosmic rays, the atmosphere and even meteorites!

TOURMALET PASS

The house of the night

An interpretation center dedicated to nocturnal exploration has opened at the top of the Col du Tourmalet. Accessible on skis in winter and by road in spring, the House of the Night Tourmalet-Pic du Midi promises a 360 degree immersion in the "dome of the night". The screening of "Nox, the journey into the night" offers a new look at darkness.

UNUSUAL ACTIVITIES

Fancy an unusual experience under the celestial vault? Opt for an accompanied outing in the intimacy of the Gavarnie Valleys at nightfall.

Rafting descent

Moonlight rafting evenings

Organized on full moon evenings in July and August, the night rafting descents offer a unique opportunity to discover the Gave de Pau by night. During a break on the Lac des Gaves, listen to local legends under an enchanting light.
