Located a few minutes from the Valley ofArgelès-Gazost, the Val d'Azun is one of the gateways to the Pyrenees National Park. Perfect mix between traditions, culture and nature, it is a place where it is good to live and escape. Don't miss visiting the villages ofAucun andArras-en-Lavedan with authentic charm with their cobbled streets and stone houses.

    Activities in all seasons

Not landlocked and strewn with large green plateaus with their fairground barns, the Val d'Azun is a Pyrenean parenthesis where time seems to slow down. Here, nature and the seasons punctuate the life of the locals and set the tempo for summer and winter activities.

    THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE VILLAGES

The simplicity and authenticity of the inhabitants create a warm and friendly atmosphere. Inspiring, this land of the Pyrenees National Park is at the same time a refuge, a place of work and an escape for anyone wishing to escape from the daily tumult and return to essential values.

    Local meetings

Meeting with Jean-François from Atelier du Confiturier

We're a little out of time here in Val d'Azun, or at least that's the impression it gives. It is a valley which is very preserved, perhaps this is linked to the fact that time seems a little suspended.

"It was a bit of chance that my wife and I brought us here 13 years ago now. We were very well received here, the people are particularly friendly. We are a bit out of time here in the Val d'Azun, at least that's the impression it gives. It's a valley that is very preserved, perhaps this is due to the fact that time seems to stand still. 'Azun is a fairly particular valley. First of all, it is very wide and then it is oriented east-west, which is very favorable for sunshine and therefore ideal for establishing orchards.

    Land of pastoralism

Under the sign of traditional breeding
    Tristan Buchot

pastoralism is a very ancient method of breeding which is based on the interdependent relationship between Man, his herd and the land he works. It is an integral part of the history of the Pyrenees and is still at the heart of daily life in our valleys, particularly in Val d'Azun.

    Preserving traditions

Here, farmers work every day to conserve these ancestral traditions through their profession. At the end of winter, the herds roam the low and medium altitude meadows before reaching the high altitude pastures at the start of summer to taste the tender grass there. This is called the mountain pasture. At that time, breeders work tirelessly to harvest hay from the valleys that will feed the animals in the stables and sheepfolds once winter arrives. In the spring, this cycle begins again.

    Val d'Azun-Pyrenees cheese

This is how, all year round, the herds are fed thanks to the local resources and can then produce delicious products such as stamped cheese “Val d'Azun - Pyrenees”. From cow, sheep or mixed, these cheeses are above all the fruit of a common will: that of the farmers of the valleys who are keen to promote their territory rich in traditions and know-how through a single identity. To bite into these local products is to taste the best of the Pyrenees.

    The outdoors in the heart

    HIKING – TRAIL – CYCLING – SKI – SNOWSHOEING

It is impossible to sum up the Val d'Azun to a single discipline as its diversity of landscapes offers so many possibilities. If it is rather obvious that hikers will find shoes at their feet here, trailers, skiers and cyclists will not be left out!

    The Val d'Azun in winter

In winter, when the herds retire to the barns and give way to large expanses of snow, theVal d'Azun Nordic Area opens the doors to a multitude of activities: snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, sledding...
